Ardena adds compaction simulation capability at its Ghent site

October 5, 2026

Ghent, Belgium – 02/10/2026 – Ardena has installed a STYL’ONE Evo Compaction Simulator from Medelpharm (KORSCH Group) at its drug product site in Ghent (Belgium). The investment strengthens Ardena’s oral solid dosage development capabilities and enables its formulation scientists to predict, from the earliest development stages, how a tablet formulation will perform at commercial scale.

Scaling up a tablet formulation remains one of the critical steps in oral solid dosage development. Issues such as capping, lamination or sticking frequently emerge only at commercial tableting speeds, and detecting them late can lead to repeat batches, loss of material and delays – particularly when the API is scarce, costly or highly potent.

The STYL’ONE Evo allows these conditions to be assessed much earlier. It reproduces, on a single station, the compression profile of the intended production press, including speed, dwell time, pre-compression and main compression, so that just a few grams of material are needed to evaluate how an API, excipient or blend will perform.

“With the STYL’One Evo, we can see how a formulation will behave on a production press, at production speed, using just a few grams of powder,” says  Laure Descamps, PhD, Senior Formulation Scientist at Ardena. “This strengthens our oral solid dosage offering from early development through to commercial scale. For our clients, it means robust formulation decisions from the very first grams of API, fewer trial batches and fewer surprises during scale-up and technology transfer. That is especially valuable for programs with scarce or costly APIs and tight timelines”.

Aligned with Ardena’s manufacturing network

The simulator’s built-in libraries include the tablet presses used across Ardena’s sites, such as the Fette 1200i, the Piccola bilayer and the Sejong MRC-T, as well as commercial roller compactors such as Alexanderwerk and Gerteis. Development work carried out in Ghent can therefore be translated directly to manufacturing in Ghent (Belgium), Pamplona (Spain) and Somerset, NJ (USA).

Benefits for clients

  • Data-driven formulation decisions using only a few grams of API
  • Early identification and resolution of scale-up risks
  • Enhanced process understanding in support of Quality by Design
  • Small-scale troubleshooting and assessment of lifecycle changes
  • Support for multilayer, tab-in-tab and minitablet formats, as well as dry granulation development

As an integrated CDMO and bioanalytical CRO built for the complexity of modern drug development, Ardena can now offer clients reduced material consumption, fewer trial batches and a more robust path from development to the clinic for their oral solid dosage programs.
